The sound of Brazilian wood
About Morgan Imports
Al was born in Rio de Janeiro and came to California as a child, where he remains an active member of the Portuguese community. Over 30 years ago, mutual friends introduced him to the Coelho family in Brazil, makers of the Maurilio duck and bird calls, and he began importing their handcrafted wood calls to the United States. He named the company Morgan Imports & Exports after his daughter, Morgan.
Maurilio Coelho began crafting these calls in 1903, and the Coelho family still makes them by hand today, continuing the tradition of carving each one with the name Maurilio and a small rabbit ("coelho" in Portuguese). Regarded as some of the finest bird calls in the world, they have long been valued by duck hunters, bird watchers, and musicians.
Al and the Coelhos have been friends for decades, and as a family-run company Morgan Imports is proud to continue that partnership and to have brought the Maurilio heritage to generations here in the United States.
